good days

I read some Joshua Harris last night, I realised again that God is so much bigger than who we are. God is bigger than our dreams, which are worth nothing in comparison to His will. His will is perfect.

Joshua Harris really does have a God-given gift with words. I like his frankness and the way he is down to earth in his approach to the pursuit of God's will. His writing helps to peel away layers of my selfish thinking, and the plain truth that God belongs at the centre of all human relationships, becomes clear as daylight.

A man's wisdom gives him patience. - Proverbs 19:11

I like Joshua Harris' analogy of the kite and the string, which he uses to explain the relationship between romance and wisdom. The kite of romance might want to fly high with the strong winds of attraction, but without the string of wisdom holding it back, the kite will eventually come crashing to the ground. The wisdom that gives us patience does meet with tension, but it is this healthy and necessary tension that keeps the kite from crashing.

Long/short periods of waiting on God (and later, any rejections or other setbacks) will never feel pleasant, but God always uses these times to put us back on the right track. He reveals our wrong thinking, our wrong attitudes, and any idols that have crept into our lives. He refocusses our eyes on Himself - if we submit to His working.

On another note, I'm quite enjoying my first week of uni! Classes have been interesting / engaging / challenging, and I'm constantly meeting old friends and making new ones. It's been fun. :)

Also I tried out ceroc (modern jive) near Sydney Uni on Monday night - I had an awesome time! I didn't pick it up too quickly in the beginning, but it got much easier soon after, thanks to a couple of guys who led well and gave me good advice during the lesson. Also I was quite flattered by compliments from the more experienced dancers / the instructor...apparently I danced well, though to be honest I felt a little clumsy most of the time. Kudos to Mark, who taught me some cooler moves on my first night!

On a less enthusiastic note, my washing machine isn't working. Maybe it will miraculously work tomorrow before I have to handwash everything? Anyways...time for glorious sleep. Goodnight!

Hey Mel, thanks for reminding me about Josh Harris' analogy, it's rather apt in my situation right now.

How are you doing back in Australia? Coping alright with school?
