Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it? - Romans 6:2
Our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin.
And since we died with Christ, we know we will also share his new life. We are sure of this because Christ rose from the dead, and he will never die again. Death no longer has any power over him. He died once to defeat sin, and now he lives for the glory of God. So you should consider yourselves dead to sin and able to live for the glory of God through Christ Jesus. - Romans 6:6-11
Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to its lustful desires. Do not let any part of your body become a tool of wickedness, to be used for sinning. Instead, give yourselves completely to God since you have been given new life. And use your whole body as a tool to do what is right for the glory of God. Sin is no longer your master, for you are longer subject to the law, which enslaves you to sin. Instead, you are free by God's grace. - Romans 6:12-14
I don't understand myself at all, for I realy want to do what is right, but I don't do it. Instead, I do the very thing I hate. I know perfectly well that what I am doing is wrong, and my bad conscience shows that I agree that the law is good. But I can't help myself, because it is sin inside me that makes me do these evil things.
I know I am rotten through and through so far as my old sinful nature is concerned. No matter which way I turn, I can't make myself do right. I want to, but I can't. When I want to do good, I don't. And when I try not to do wrong, I do it anyway. But if I am doing what I don't want to do, I am not really the one doing it; the sin within me is doing it.
It seems to be a fact of life that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. I love God's law with all my heart. But there is another law at work within me that is at war with my mind. This law wins the fight and makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me. Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin? Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God's law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin. - Romans 7:15-25
So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. For the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you through Christ Jesus from the power of sin that leads to death. - Romans 8:1-2
Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. If your sinful nature controls your mind, there is death. But if the Holy Spirit controls your mind, there is life and peace. For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God's laws, and it never will. That's why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God. - Romans 8:5-8
So, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation whatsoever to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. For if you keep on following it, you will perish. But if through the power of the Holy Spirit you turn from it and its evil deeds, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.
===========================================
Dear God,
Please teach us to hate sin. Let us not revel in it in the slightest. Open our eyes - let us see how detestable these things really are. Allow us to see your glory - how much infinitely more you are worth. Lord, let our hearts delight in the things that please you. I want to yearn for them...
Thank you so much for your Holy Spirit, that you always come for me when I fall off the path. Indeed I walk the narrow road only by your grace...thank you Lord...
Thank you that although my body is dead in my sin, my spirit is alive in you. Thank you that just as you gave life to Jesus after his death, you will give life to my body. I work out my salvation with fear and trembling, because it is you working in me, by your infinite grace. Oh Lord...teach me to walk in righteousness, teach me to live by your Holy Spirit. Let every part of my life come under subjection to you. You are my life and my freedom.
In Jesus' name I pray,
Amen
